The Stranger in you

If a stranger comes up to you, with a kind smile and offer you a toffee; would you take it? " Sharing is caring " A long taught value, yet highly contradictory to the warnings we get from our mothers daily before we leave home. With evil practitioners all around us, it's hard not to have our mummy's worry and train us not to accept gifts from unfamiliar people. Many a times this resistance of accepting good will, has lead to many people to stop attempting any acts of kindness towards strangers. My friend once stopped a lift for a girl, the lift was pretty empty, with more than enough space for the young girl and her mother. Yet seeing his 'over-friendly' approach, her mother pulled her daughter behind and told him to carry on; giving him a dubious look. He has never tried to extend a helpful hand ever since that day. Especially in front of older women. Once hurt twice shy I guess. But all around the city there are people who overcome this fear of judgement. They don't care if someone once refuse the help or if they were once-in-a-lifetime they were shooed away. These people daily try their best to help the needy. Take Mumbai's ancient dubbawalla association, they have come up with the idea of using the leftovers of every tiffin to homeless hungry men and women.
