“Do you believe in ghosts?” we asked him and all he had to say that it was all a “Dharmik Bakwaas.”
It was a pleasant Monday morning, as two budding journalists rode down a rubble path; they parked their bike under a rusted metal arch which read ‘Mira Road Cemetery’. They exchanged nervous glances and silently prayed that their plan would work. They weren’t quite sure if the man would recognize them as they were going to see him after quite a while.
But to their surprise the man did remember them; the young journalists asked them if he would agree to let them interview him. He was quite hesitant at first and refused to let them click any pictures but after a while he opened up to them as you would to someone you trust. Following is the conversation between John Sajid and the two journalists:
J: What is your name?
JS: if I say John you’ll say I’m Christian, if I say Sajid you;’’ say I’m Muslim and if I say Raj you’ll say I’m Hindu.
J: Don’t you get afraid staying here alone?
JS: I don’t! I believe all these ghost factors are just a bunch of “Dharmik Bakwaas” I believe that priests created the concept of ghost because they wanted to create fear in the minds of the common people and thus increase the need for God.
J: Are you happy as a cemetery care taker?
JS: Oh yes! This job gives me immense happiness as it’s a kind of social service and I encounter lots of good people who in some way or the other touch my life.
J: How would you define life?
JS: Everybody has a different view about Life and they all have the right to live their life in their own way. Though I strongly believe that money can bring no man happiness, you could earn lakhs yet not be happy. I believe man can only attain true happiness by doing good for others.
J: What are your views about religion?
JS: Every nation, every country, every state, every city has a religion, do you know why? Religion exists to increase the number of people in a majority so that the largest majority has the maximum power. But this has somehow created clashes between the majorities and peace could never be established. I mean just look at the work today, do you think peace exists? Every religion system is flawed except one that is HUMANITY. The day people instill humanity in their lives there will be peace.
J: Who has been your greatest inspiration?
JS: I have read a lot of books such as Geeta, Ramayan, Mahabharata, I’ve also read books written on different gods, but the one that inspired me the most was the life story of Jesus, the reason being that Jesus followed Humanity and didn’t instigate any war.
